the why.
i’ve had tremendous resistance to start a substack. mainly fear. so this writing & sharing journey has a lot to do with me overcoming that fear by just BEGINNING the process. getting it wrong, sucking even, and trying again. (REMINDER: resistance & fear are protectors and can hinder our ability to follow our natural impulses, which is where the abundance lies.) this exercise of practicing a beginners’ mind will have a ripple effect to other areas of my life where any of the three SSS show up (shame, scarcity, separation), all of which are patriarchal and colonizer tools of control.
a teacher recently said to me that your growth edge is actually your center. the only reason our center (current job, daily routine, relationships) feels safe to us is because we continually do them, it’s repetition and habit. the magic, creativity, inspiring parts of life are just outside that, in the moments between the familiar and the dream. it’s about building capacity around resilience and becoming braver to be who you actually are, more often with more frequency. the more you really are yourself you become magnetic and your life expands. the edge is the center.
thinking of the page archetype in tarot. pages often represent young, energetic people who are at the very beginning of their personal journey. they are still developing a sense of self but they approach new challenges with fervent energy and excitement. pages look forward to the opportunity of learning and practicing new skills and discovering a new aspect of themselves.
page of cups signifies the beginning of a creative project or venture, an indication that there is creative energy trying to burst forth into your consciousness.
page of pentacles indicates dreams and the desire to manifest those dreams in the material world.
page of wands represents a free spirit who welcomes change and new beginnings and is not afraid to let their authenticity shine.
page of swords reflects an abundance of energy, passion and enthusiasm - a sign to GO FOR IT!
a friend said to me recently, if i were to start something new, let’s say to working out, and i wasn’t very good at it, would you tell me i suck? would you shame me from the start? NO. so then why is it ok that we do this to ourselves? what if instead we met the beginners mind with love and compassion? imagine how much easier & FUN the journey would be.
so that’s exactly what i am doing. embracing the page archetype as i love myself through the uncomfortable process of doing something new. the more you believe in things, the more they believe in you. thank you for being here.

Hi Ciao,
I had trepidation before publishing my first post. Two barriers - my introversion (fear induced) and lack of tech skill. I had a great feeling of expansion after I first posted. I hope you are experiencing that yourself. As to the tech side of things, I'm learning by trial and err and getting helpful tips from friends.
I look forward to following you!
Susan
My partner and I LOVED the recipe for the apricot ricotta breakfast cake. It was so good! I'm eagerly awaiting your next post! In the meantime, I think I'll try making the lovely eggplant caponata dish.
